ΘΞ Chapter Eternal
JOSHUA STIMSON A1583
3/27/1988 – 10/24/2010
It is sad to experience the loss of a Brother to Chapter Eternal but it is more than doubly so when a Brother’s passing happens "prematurely." Josh lost his life when he was struck by a Green Line trolley in Boston, Massachusetts on October 24th. A memorial fund has been set up in his honor; memorial contributions can be forwarded to the newly established Joshua M. Stimson Mathematics Fund, for the benefit of students in the Haverhill Co-op School District. The donations may be sent in care of Rodney & Gina Giudici- Oakes, 57 Rivervale, Piermont, NH 03779. His obituary may be found online at http://www.rickerfh.com/. A memorial page has been set up on the alumni website at alpha6294.com.

Several brothers have wrote about Josh:

Having Josh as a roommate freshman year certainly opened my eyes to what college was all about. He got me to go to my first Zoo rush event, I think it might have been the wing-eating contest, and we just kept coming back. He had this ability to instantly get a feel from a person within moments, and be able to converse at their level, which is great for rushing houses, but even better for making connections and friends. He would be joking with someone he just met when other people might be still be learning names and majors.
When Josh told a joke, it was funny and appropriate. It didn't matter how horrible the joke, or if who he said it to was the butt of the joke, or his state of intoxication at the time. It was Josh. It was well-meaning hilarious.
When Josh left RPI to pursue finance at BU, you could tell that it pained him to leave his old friends. But he was still certainly in our lives. He came back for work week the next year, and came to two out of the last three 6294 celebrations. Josh went out of his way to maintain the bridges he built throughout his life, whether visiting members of his pledge class, or keeping in touch with his friends from home. At his funeral, the church was filled beyond capacity. It was filled beyond standing room. Some huddled in the lobby, straining to hear stories of Josh as a microphone was passed around. Whether you were from his home town, RPI, or BU, our experience was the same. We all heard eerily familiar stories of the Josh we all knew, from people we did not.

And that was Josh. Constant in the midst of upheaval. He was the crutch you would lean on when bored or sad or stressed. He would sense it, and be there to pick you up. The feeling of having him ripped away is hard to put into words.

The number of people whose lives Josh touched, and the depth to which he touched their lives is staggering. The members of the Alpha Chapter of Theta Xi should be extremely proud to call Josh Stimson, A1583, a brother. I know I am.

I remember when Josh came to stay with me for a day in CT while he was interning at Bank of America in NYC. It was the first time I had a brother come to my house since being initiated. I introduced him to my family and friends. I thought things would be awkward since I never had anyone from my family or group of friends meet a brother, but he fit in well with everyone. When they found out Josh passed away they were upset because they said they knew he was very motivated and would be successful in life. I shared many fond memories with Josh at the house at RPI, but spending time with him at my home definitely impacted me the most.
